Congratulations to Tanya and Anthony, who were married this past Saturday! I was so excited to make their contemporary wedding cake. The cake was 4 tiers with layers of chocolate chip; milk chocolate/raspberry; red velvet and french vanilla/milk chocolate marble flavors. Covered in fondant and decorated with dozens of dark brown, fondant circles, it looked quite elegant in the beautiful reception room at the Mosteller Mansion…where my youngest insists every time that we deliver to the location that that is where HER wedding will take place. Congratulations again to the happy couple!

The next photo is of Ella’s Shirley Temple/Hollywood themed birthday cake. The cake features a movie clapboard with the birthday message, a movie reel, filmstrips, lollipops, stars, and ticket stubs with titles of some of Shirley Temple’s famous movies. This cake was so much fun to create and make!

OPENINGS remain for Thursday and Friday, October 2 and 3; however, Saturday, October 4, is completely booked. I can take one, maybe two additional orders, depending on the detail and complexity of what you need.

A NEW TWIST ON AN OLD FAVORITE ~ CUPCAKES
I came across these in a search for unique cupcakes. These are actual cupcakes baked inside ice cream cones. How cool are these?! These would be great ~ and fast ~ to make with your children!
Ice Cream Cone Cakes
A creative twist on the traditional birthday cake. Kids will love eating their cake in a cone instead of on a plate!

Start to Finish:1 hr 20 min

1 box Betty Crocker® SuperMoist® party rainbow chip cake mix
Water, vegetable oil and egg whites called for on cake mix box
24 flat-bottom ice cream cones
1 to 2 containers Betty Crocker® Rich & Creamy frosting (any flavor)

1. Heat oven to 350°F (325°F for dark or nonstick pans). Place paper baking cup in each of 24 regular-size muffin cups.
2. Make cake batter as directed on box. Fill each cup 2/3 full of batter (1 heaping tablespoon each). Place ice cream cone upside down on batter in each cup.
3. Bake 15 to 20 minutes or until toothpick inserted in cake comes out clean (cones may tilt on batter). Cool completely, about 30 minutes. Remove paper baking cups. Generously frost cake with frosting, and decorate as desired. Store loosely covered.
High Altitude (3500-6500 ft): Follow High Altitude directions on cake mix box. Fill cones about 1/2 full to make 36 to 40 cones. Bake 20 to 25 minutes.

Fall is in the air!

I’m so excited about the fall and all of the great *seasonal* items that comes with this wonderful new season!!! Hand decorated cookies, fall themed cakes, and so much more! I will be uploading some of my favorite and most popular designs to the web site soon. Be on the lookout for these festive items!

New Photos: Lots of new photos have been uploaded to the web site from last week’s orders. My favorite *and first* 3D jewelry box is in the feature box this week. The entire jewelry box and all of it’s contents are completely edible…from the bracelets to the tiara.

Openings remain for this week, so call or e-mail if you need anything at all. I have a wedding delivery and am booked on Saturday, September 27, but I can take additional orders for the remaining days.

September 15 Newsletter

I wanted to start this week’s newsletter with my favorite photo from last week. Angela picked out this cake to celebrate her parents’ 50th wedding anniversary. Congratulations to the Sigmon’s on their 50 years together. What a blessing.

  • All of the photos from last week’s orders are now up for you to view. From Hannah Montana to spaceships, last week had a wide variety of themed orders.
  • I can work in two additional orders for this week, so if you need anything, please let me know.
  • Please tell your friends and family who order to mention your name when they place their order, so that I credit you with the appropriate referral credit. Thank you for sharing my name!!!
  • Fall will soon be in the air! That means Halloween parties for home, daycare and school. To save a place for Halloween orders, feel free to let me know. I will be offering FREE delivery to schools this year for party orders, so my availability will be limited. Halloween falls on Friday, October 31st this year. Even if you’re uncertain of what you’ll need or how many, just having your space saved on my calendar will aid me in scheduling other pickups and deliveries for that date. Thanks so much!

Wow!!! Thank you SO much for the great feedback on the brand new blog! I was taken a back at the number of hits that the blog has received just since it’s introduction last week! I hope that this format will really be easier for everyone, so you can come, visit and read up on weekly happenings and updates at your leisure…complete with pictures! 🙂 I hope that you’ll continue to visit and read up on what’s going on at Cakes by Amy.

Openings remain for this week, so please, let me know at your earliest convenience for any last-minute cakes, cookies or cupcakes that you may need. Saturdays spaces are limited and Friday isn’t far behind, so just let me know if I can pencil you in.

My FAVORITE cake from this past week would have to be this colorful and cheery birthday cake for Evan! I love the bright yellows, limes, hot pinks and oranges. It’s just a fun cake to look at, and it was even more fun to create! This design (in so many different color combinations) has become the single, most popular cake that I create..second only to Hannah Montana – of course! – and I LOVE making this style of cake! Evan’s mom also ordered matching cookies and cupcakes to go along with her birthday cake. Feel free to click here to see the cookies.

New photos for viewing this week include a 50th birthday cake for Lynn’s surprise bash yesterday that was designed around her party invitation. Becky also ordered a tiered sports themed birthday cake for her son’s 2nd birthday. Matching cookies were part of her order, as well. Newsletter Goes to Blog!

As with everything else lately, my newsletter can now be found right here each week on my blog. How cool is that? I’m really excited, and hope that you’ll visit when you can, in conjunction with the web site.

September 1-6 News….

With fall upon us…new cake flavors (and old favorites) are on their way back. Scrumptious dessert cakes will be available in mini (6 servings) or family (12-16 servings) sizes. Mini cakes will be priced at $15 and the family size cakes will be priced at $25.

Strawberry Cream – Moist layers of strawberry cake with rich strawberry cream cheese icing.

Caramel – Moist yellow layers with a creamy caramel icing.

Double Chocolate – Decadent rich chocolate layers with homemade chocolate buttercream icing.

Carrot Cake – A family favorite recipe that is packed full of all the fresh ingredients that we love in carrot cake – covered in cream cheese icing.

Strawberry Cream – Layers of strawberry cake with rich strawberry cream cheese icing.

Caramel – Moist vanilla caramel layers with a creamy caramel icing.

Double Chocolate – Milk chocolate layers with homemade chocolate buttercream icing.

Carrot Cake – A family favorite recipe that is packed full of all the fresh ingredients that we love in carrot cake – covered in cream cheese icing.

Coconut – Coconut cake layers with a coconut butter cream filling and icing, coated in fresh coconut.

Chocolate Peanut Butter – Milk chocolate layers with a double filling of vanilla and peanut butter butter cream. Topped off with a coating of peanut butter butter cream, and rich, chocolate drizzle.

New photos from last week have now been added to the web site, but one of my favorites, had to be this wedding shower cake for friends of Natalie in Iron Station.

Finalizing your order…If you have a date reserved from September 1-13, and still haven’t finalized that order, please let me know the details as soon as possible. With fondant additions to my cakes, they need a bare minimum of 48 hours to dry, so that they won’t be too soft, and will hold beautifully. Thank you for understanding!

Holiday ordering…Orders for Halloween (October 31) will need to be received no later than Tuesday, October 28. School and daycare ordering will be available as always, so you may want to speak with your fellow grade parents, class parents to see if you would like to order hand decorated cookies, cupcakes or cupcake cakes for your child’s class. In addition, there will be FREE delivery for all school/daycare orders for Halloween within Catawba County. Place your orders early, as delivery availability will be scheduled on a first come, first serve basis.

Ordering for September 1-6…There are still openings remaining for this week. All last-minute orders need to be called in or e-mailed by Wednesday, September 4th, if at all possible. Thanks so much!!!!
